Buying Power, Risk and Drawdown Explained

Account sizes

A $100K funded account sounds like a hundred thousand dollars in your hands. It is not. The number sets the size of a simulated trading balance, and from it follow your position sizes, your dollar loss limits and the dollar value of any profit split. This guide separates what the headline controls from what it does not, with worked numbers for buying power, risk per trade and drawdown.

A $100K funded account is not $100K of your money

In a prop firm evaluation or funded account, the balance is a trading allowance on a simulated account. You cannot withdraw it, lend it or move it to an exchange. What you can earn is a share of the profit you make on it, paid out under the firm’s payout rules.

Your own money at risk is the evaluation fee, not the balance. If you break a rule, the account closes and the fee is gone; you do not owe the losses. A $100K account and a $10K account carry the same kind of personal risk, just a different fee.

So when you read “$100K”, translate it straight into three other numbers: the daily loss limit, the maximum loss limit and the dollar risk per trade you plan to use. Those three shape your experience far more than the headline does. How funded accounts work in general is covered in crypto funded accounts explained.

Balance versus buying power: what leverage changes

Buying power is the total position size you are allowed to open. With leverage it can be several times the balance, so a $100K account may control positions worth far more than $100K. That sounds impressive, but it is the least useful number on the screen.

What matters for the rules is how much you lose if your stop is hit, not how big the position looks. Position size follows from risk, not from leverage: size equals dollar risk divided by stop distance. Risking 0.5% of $100K, which is $500, with a stop 2% away gives a position of $25,000. Leverage only decides how much margin that position ties up.

The position comes out of the risk you chose, whatever the buying power says.

Traders who size from buying power instead of risk are the ones who hit a daily limit in a single trade. The daily limit and the overall limit behave differently, as explained in daily drawdown vs max loss.

Drawdown in dollars: how much room $100K really gives you

With common limits of 5% per day and 10% overall, a $100K account can lose $5,000 in a day and $10,000 in total before it closes. If the maximum limit is fixed, the floor sits at $90,000. If it trails your peak, the floor moves up as you make profit, which leaves less room than the headline suggests.

The headline is $100K; the numbers you trade against are the smaller ones.

Now picture a bad day. At 1% per trade, five losing trades in a row reach the daily limit; at 0.5%, the same streak uses half of it. That is the real meaning of room: the number of mistakes your plan can absorb before the rules end the attempt. Many firms also measure the limits on equity, so a floating loss counts before the stop is ever hit.

The profit side: what a good month is worth in dollars

Profit scales the same way. A 3% month on $100K is $3,000; with an 80% split, the trader’s share is $2,400. On a $10K account the same month is $300, and the share is $240. The effort in percentage terms is identical, which is why the size of the account says nothing about how likely a trader is to earn anything.

These are illustrations, not expectations. Plenty of months are flat or negative, and the payout rules, such as minimum trading days, payout windows and closed positions, apply at every size. How profit splits usually work is explained in profit split in crypto prop trading.

Fundex24 and the $100K question

Fundex24 does not sell a $100K account. Its largest plan is $10,000 for $89, alongside $3,000 for $29 and $6,000 for $59. The percentages are the ones used above: a 5% daily limit, a fixed 10% maximum limit (a $9,000 floor on $10,000), and an 80% profit split on the funded account that can rise to 95% after five successful withdrawals and a total profit of 60% of the initial plan balance.

If you want a feel for a larger balance before you trade one anywhere, run this guide’s numbers on the $10K account and multiply by ten. Choosing between sizes is covered in which funded account size to choose, and the exact limits are on the Fundex24 rules page. When you are ready, compare the challenge plans.

Funded accounts at Fundex24 are simulated accounts used for evaluation, and no earnings are promised. A bigger headline changes the dollars, not the odds.

Frequently asked questions

Can I withdraw the $100K from a funded account?

No. The balance is a simulated trading allowance. What can be withdrawn is your share of the profit, under the firm’s payout rules.

Is a $100K account riskier for me than a $10K account?

Your own money at risk is the fee in both cases. The rules are the same percentages, but the dollar swings are ten times larger, which many traders find harder to manage calmly.

Does Fundex24 offer a $100K funded account?

No. Fundex24 currently offers $3,000, $6,000 and $10,000 accounts.

A $100K account is not $100K in your pocket.
