It depends on the firm, and the answer is rarely a flat yes or no. Some firms allow most automation, some ban specific kinds such as arbitrage or high-frequency systems, and some judge the pattern your trading leaves rather than the tool behind it. This guide explains what counts as automation, which rules to read before you buy a challenge, why a bot still has to live inside your drawdown limits, and how Fundex24 treats trading bots.

Can you use EAs and trading bots on a funded account?

Automation covers more than one thing. An expert advisor (EA) is a program that runs inside a trading platform such as MetaTrader and opens and closes trades by itself. A bot does the same job through a platform’s connection or API. A trade copier mirrors trades from one account into others, and a signal tool only sends ideas that you then act on yourself.

Firms tend to fall into three groups. The first allows most EAs and bots as long as the trading stays inside the normal limits. The second allows automation but bans named kinds, most often strategies that profit from price-feed delays, very high-frequency trading, or the same third-party EA run by many traders at once. The third publishes no tool-by-tool list and judges the pattern instead. That is closest to the Fundex24 approach, covered below. If the evaluation itself is new to you, start with what a prop firm challenge is.

Automation rules to check before you buy

Read the rules page and the FAQ, not the advert. Four details decide whether your automation fits:

Platform. Whether the firm offers the platform your EA or bot runs on. A MetaTrader EA has nothing to attach to on a platform without MetaTrader.

Banned types. Which kinds of automation are named: arbitrage, high-frequency trading, tick scalping, grid or martingale systems.

Copying. Whether trade copiers, or the same trades across several accounts, are allowed.

Consequence. A warning, a cancelled profit, a refused payout or a failed account.

Four details that decide whether a bot fits a firm’s rules.

Firms restrict these tools for a reason that has little to do with software as such. A challenge is meant to measure your decisions. Profit that comes from gaps in the price feed, from one strategy copied across many accounts, or from speed alone says nothing about how you would trade under normal conditions. Also check whether the rule is the same in the evaluation and on the funded account. A bot that passes a challenge and is then restricted is a strategy you would have to rebuild at the worst possible moment.

Trading bots still have to respect the drawdown limits

Whatever the firm’s policy, a bot does not know your limits unless you build them in. At Fundex24 the daily drawdown limit is 5% of the day’s starting balance, which is $500 on a day that starts at $10,000, and the maximum drawdown is 10% of the initial balance, a fixed floor of $9,000 on that account. Balance and equity are both monitored, so a losing position counts against the limits while it is still open.

Numbers to build into any system before it trades.

Two kinds of systems need special care. Grid and martingale systems add positions as price moves against them, so the loss grows exactly when the account has the least room left. Against a fixed maximum drawdown floor, one long trend can end the account. Systems that widen or remove stops when a trade goes wrong do the same damage more slowly. Whatever you automate, cap the risk per trade in dollars, cap the total open risk, and switch the system off for the day well before the daily limit. Bots that trade data releases meet the same spikes as manual traders; see trading news on a funded account.

Profit has a rule of its own too. If one position earns 60% or more of the current stage profit target, that profit remains in your account but is excluded from challenge progress. On a $1,000 first-stage target, a bot that lands one $700 winner has not moved you closer to passing.

Hedging, copying and multi-position bots

Hedging bots. Some systems open a long and a short at the same moment. At Fundex24, hedging is allowed only with at least 15 minutes between the opposite positions on the same pair, and simultaneously creating opposing positions to artificially alter trading conditions is listed as market manipulation. Every position also uses isolated margin.

Copy tools are the next trap. Fundex24 lets you hold several challenges at once, but identical trades across different challenges are prohibited. The platform monitors for this pattern, and if it is detected, all related challenges fail. A trade copier that mirrors one account into another produces exactly that pattern. Each account must also be managed only by the registered trader, so a person or service that trades the account for you breaks the account-sharing rule.

Then there is stacking. On the funded account, the combined risk of all open positions must stay within 3% of the day’s starting balance, or that day’s profit isn’t counted. That is $300 of total open risk on a $10,000 account, and a system that opens several positions at once reaches it quickly. Fast, many-trade systems are also where the scalping questions start; see choosing an account for scalping.

EAs and trading bots at Fundex24

Fundex24 does not publish a list of approved or banned tools. Its FAQ answers the bot question by pointing to the prohibited trading behaviours: repetitive algorithmic patterns that operate solely on short-term behaviours may be considered a violation. The same list prohibits abusive scalping, exploiting system errors such as incorrect prices or data delays, market manipulation, and handing the account to another person. The terms of service add that unauthorised strategies or software, such as arbitrage bots, are prohibited.

Challenges are traded in the Fundex24 terminal on the website and in the app, not in MetaTrader, so there is no MT4 or MT5 platform to attach an EA to. If you plan to connect any automation tool, or you are unsure whether a system’s pattern could count as repetitive, ask the challenge support team before you trade and describe exactly what the tool does.

The consequences are staged. The first time prohibited behaviour is found, a formal warning is issued. If it is found at withdrawal, the profit payment, and even continued cooperation, may be refused, which is why a question on day one is cheaper than an explanation at payout time. How withdrawals work is covered in how prop firm payouts work. The full conditions are on the rules page and in the FAQ, and the plans are on the challenges page.

A practical middle ground is to let software handle the work that isn’t a trading decision. A stop-loss and take-profit placed with each trade, a written checklist and a journal are normal parts of trading. The free practice account ($10,000 virtual, currently 3 days, up to 1:10, three resets) is a good place to run a manual version of your system before you pay for a challenge.

Frequently asked questions

Does Fundex24 allow EAs and trading bots?

There is no list of approved tools.
