OpenAI is still a private company: it has no ticker, no listing on Nasdaq or the NYSE, and no shares you can add to a normal brokerage account. What does exist is OPENAI/USDT, a pre-IPO perpetual contract launched in May 2026 that follows the price traders put on OpenAI before it goes public. It is not a share. Below is what it is, how to read its price, and how to trade it from a $29 challenge account where the fee is the most you can lose.

Is there a ticker?

Three routes people try

What the contract is

Reading the price

How hard it moves

A $3,000 worked example

If OpenAI lists

Before you start

FAQ

Is there an OpenAI stock ticker?

No. OpenAI has never sold shares to the public, so no exchange has given it a symbol. If you type “OpenAI” into a brokerage search box, whatever comes up is something else: a fund, an AI-themed ETF or a company with a similar name.

That may change. According to reports, OpenAI confidentially submitted a draft registration statement (the S-1 a company files before an IPO) to the SEC in June 2026, and its CFO later told staff the company “will be a public company in 2027.” No date, price or exchange has been announced. Until a listing actually happens, any OpenAI stock price you see quoted is either a private-market estimate or the price of a derivative like the one this guide covers.

Three routes people try to get a piece of OpenAI

Searches like “how to buy OpenAI stock before the IPO” usually lead to one of three places, and they are very different things.

Private shares. OpenAI stock does change hands privately, but those deals are generally open only to accredited investors and come with high minimums.

A big public shareholder. Microsoft was reported to own roughly 27% of OpenAI Group PBC after the company’s late-2025 restructuring. Buying Microsoft gives you a slice of that, but mostly you are buying Microsoft’s own cloud and software business.

A price contract. The OPENAI/USDT pre-IPO perpetual follows a market price for OpenAI itself, in both directions, around the clock. You own nothing; you trade the price.

The rest of this article is about the third route, because it is the only one built to track OpenAI’s own valuation day by day.

What the OPENAI pre-IPO contract actually is

In May 2026 Binance opened a new kind of futures market: pre-IPO perpetuals, contracts on well-known companies that have not listed yet. SpaceX came first on May 21, OPENAIUSDT followed on May 26, and Anthropic’s contract arrived on June 2. They are settled in USDT and trade 24/7, weekends included. Binance set out the rules in its OpenAI contract announcement.

Now the part that matters most: the contract is not OpenAI stock. Holding it means:

no ownership of OpenAI and no claim on its assets or profits;

no voting rights and nothing paid out by the company;

no involvement from OpenAI at all: the company does not issue, sponsor or endorse it.

What you get is a price that goes up and down, and a position that makes or loses money with it. On Fundex24 the same market sits in the market list under Stocks, prices follow Binance futures, and you can go long or short on the OPENAI/USDT trade page from any challenge or funded account.

Reading the OpenAI stock price: the valuation math

Binance benchmarks the contract on an estimated 1 billion OpenAI shares. That makes the math simple: multiply the price by 1 billion and you get the company value the market is pricing in. At around 1,645 USDT at the time of writing (mid-October 2026), that works out to roughly $1.6 trillion.

Set that next to the last private round. OpenAI was reported to have closed a funding round at an $852 billion valuation in March 2026, so the contract is pricing the company at close to twice that. Treat the gap as a bet by traders, not a fact about OpenAI. Binance itself says the price of a pre-IPO contract may differ from any eventual IPO price.

Price times an estimated 1 billion shares gives the valuation traders are paying for, about twice the reported private round.

Where does the number come from? Before a listing there is no stock to copy, so the price is built from trading on Binance itself: an average of recent trades, with limits on how far it can move each second. In plain words, the price is whatever buyers and sellers on one exchange agree OpenAI is worth, minute by minute. Since launch the price has ranged from 1,017 on July 21 to 1,730 on September 29, a 70% climb in about ten weeks.

How hard OPENAI moves day to day

This is not a sleepy blue chip. Over the 60 days to October 13, the contract’s average daily range from low to high was 4.5%, and on 22 of those days the range was 5% or more. The widest day, September 9, covered 12.1%. Over 90 days the biggest daily gain was 8.0% and the biggest drop 9.9%. For scale, the NVIDIA contract (NVDA) in the same Stocks list averaged a 2.2% range over the same 60 days, so OPENAI swings about twice as hard.

It trades around the clock, but not evenly. In the past two months the busiest stretch was the New York morning, roughly 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Eastern, when the average hourly range ran above 1%. Late evenings and weekends were thinner.

Daily candles on the OPENAI/USDT page show the run from the summer low into late September; the order panel opens on isolated margin at 5x.

A worked example on a $3,000 challenge

The $3,000 challenge costs $29. Its limits are the same in every stage: you can lose at most 5% in a day ($150) and 10% in total ($300), so equity must never touch $2,700. Both limits count open positions, and touching one ends the account even if the price comes back. Here is one way to size an OPENAI trade inside those lines.

Put $45 at risk on each trade, 1.5% of the balance. Three full losses in one day would cost $135, still under the $150 line.

Set the stop 5% from your entry, a little wider than OPENAI’s 4.5% average day, so ordinary noise doesn’t knock you out.

Size from the stop: $45 ÷ 5% = a $900 position, about 0.55 OPENAI at mid-October prices.

Check the margin: $90 at 1:10, or $180 at the 5x the trade page preselects. Either way most of the account stays free.

Stress-test it: a repeat of the 12.1% day would cost $109 on $900 with no stop at all. That is inside the daily limit, but only $41 inside.

Size from the stop first; leverage only decides how much margin the position ties up.

Now compare going all in. At the full 1:10, $3,000 of margin opens a $30,000 position, and a 0.5% move against it costs $150. On OPENAI that is less than a typical hour’s swing during the New York morning, so the whole daily limit could go before lunch.

The profit side has rules too. Step 1 asks for $300 (10%), Step 2 for $240 (8%), and each step needs at least five valid trading days. One more filter: a single trade worth 60% or more of the target ($180 in Step 1) is not counted toward it. A $900 position would need a 20% move to make that much, so this size keeps you clear. Profit from a trade held for less than five minutes is not counted either. For more on picking that $45 figure, see our guide on how much to risk per trade.

On a phone the order form and the chart are two screens; the TP/SL switch sets the take-profit and stop-loss with the order.

If OpenAI goes public: what happens to the contract

Binance has said what it plans to do either way. If and when OpenAI lists, the contract moves to the listed share’s price, and Binance may turn it into a regular stock perpetual. If the IPO is postponed or cancelled, Binance gives notice before delisting the contract and settles open positions.

The switch is the moment to respect. If the contract is pricing OpenAI near $1.6 trillion and the IPO lands somewhere else, the price has to close that gap, and it can do it fast. A stop loss works well in normal trading, but in a sudden jump it can fill beyond its level. Because prices on Fundex24 follow Binance futures, any jump on the contract shows up on your chart too. Around listing news, trade smaller or stay flat.

The same logic applies to the Anthropic contract, which sits right next to OPENAI in the Stocks list and has its own IPO timeline.

Before you trade it: practice, odds and costs

Start with the free practice account: $10,000 of virtual money, leverage up to 1:10, three days, the same OPENAI chart and order form. It costs nothing and tells you quickly whether a 4.5% average day suits you.

If it does, the next step is a challenge. The sizes and fees are on the challenge plans page, and the full rule set shows every limit per stage. Most people who buy a challenge do not pass it, so pay only what you are comfortable losing. Funded accounts are simulated, with an 80% profit split for the trader. If you also want gold, oil or US names on the same account, read about stocks and commodities on one account.

The blog code PROPOFF10 takes 10% off the $3,000, $6,000 and $10,000 plans once per user, so the $3,000 challenge comes to $26.10.

Risk note: perpetual contracts are leveraged and can lose money fast, a pre-IPO price can jump when listing news breaks, and nothing here is investment advice or a promise of income.

OpenAI stock FAQ

Can I buy OpenAI shares today?

Not on any stock exchange. OpenAI is private, and according to reports it aims to go public in 2027, with no date set.

What is the OpenAI stock ticker?

There isn’t one yet, because tickers are assigned when a company lists. OPENAI/USDT is the symbol of an exchange contract, not a stock ticker.

Can you buy OpenAI on Binance?

Not the stock. Binance lists a pre-IPO perpetual, OPENAIUSDT, that follows a price for OpenAI but gives you no ownership, votes or claim on the company.

What happens to the OPENAI contract at the IPO?

Binance says it will move to the listed share’s price and may become a regular stock perpetual.
