Launchpad tokens

The pump fun token, PUMP, is the coin of pump.fun, the Solana launchpad where thousands of meme coins have been created. It was sold to the public in July 2025 at $0.004, and its price is pushed around by two forces that ordinary meme coins do not have: the platform buying PUMP back with its revenue, and locked team and investor tokens being released over time. Those forces make it swing both ways, which is exactly what a long-or-short challenge account is built for.

“Pump coin”: two searches, two different things

If you typed “pump coin” into a search bar, you may have meant one of two things. One is PUMP, the token this article is about. The other is any coin that “pumped” today, meaning it jumped sharply in a few hours.

For the second meaning, the useful lesson is short: a coin that has already risen 40% is not a bargain, and buying after the spike is how many people end up holding the top. If you want to trade those moves, you need a plan for both directions, which is what the rest of this guide shows using PUMP as the example.

What pump.fun actually does

Pump.fun is a website on Solana where anyone can create a meme coin in a couple of minutes, with no code and almost no cost. A new coin trades on a simple built-in price curve at first, and if enough people buy it, it graduates to wider trading. Some of the best-known meme coins of the last two years, including Fartcoin, started there.

The business model is fees. Every trade on the platform pays a small cut, and with millions of trades on thousands of coins, that adds up to large revenue. This matters for PUMP, because part of that revenue flows straight back into the token.

The pump fun token (PUMP), in plain numbers

PUMP has a total supply of 1 trillion tokens. In July 2025, pump.fun sold a large block to the public at $0.004 per token and raised around $500 million in minutes, one of the fastest token sales on record.

The first year was rough for buyers. By July 2026 the price had sunk to about $0.0014, well under the sale price, despite the buybacks. It then turned sharply, and at the time of writing (early October 2026) PUMP trades at roughly $0.0063, more than four times its July low. That path, down 65% and then up fourfold in a matter of months, says more about PUMP than any slogan could.

Fundex24 traders have noticed the movement: PUMP is the fourth most-traded meme coin on the platform by number of positions over the last 45 days.

What moves PUMP: buybacks, unlocks and launchpad activity

Buybacks

Pump.fun uses a large share of its revenue, reported as half of net revenue from its main products, to buy PUMP on the open market and burn it. In theory that creates steady buying. In practice, as the 2025–2026 slide showed, buybacks do not stop a falling price when sellers are larger. News of bigger buybacks, or of revenue jumping, can still spark sharp up days.

Unlocks

The team holds 20% of the supply and existing investors 13%. Those tokens were locked for 12 months after the sale and are now being released in stages on a schedule that runs into 2029. Traders often expect selling before a large release. Yet the August 12, 2026 unlock of about 6.9 billion PUMP came and went with a 1% move, because a date everyone knows about is usually priced in early.

The scheduled unlock was a quiet day; the biggest moves came on days nobody had circled.

Launchpad activity

When meme coin season is hot, pump.fun’s volume and fees rise, and PUMP tends to get attention with them. When the crowd cools, the reverse happens. Over the 30 days to October 2, 2026, PUMP’s average daily range was about 12% on Binance futures prices, and 22 of those 30 days moved 10% or more from low to high.

Trading PUMP long or short without your own money

On a $3,000 challenge account, the daily loss limit is $150 and the maximum loss is $300. With PUMP regularly covering 10% or more in a day, a sensible starting size is around $600.

Side-by-side example of a $600 PUMP long and a $600 PUMP short on a $3,000 challenge account with stops, targets and results in dollars
The same size and the same risk; only the direction changes.

The long: revenue figures come out strong and PUMP breaks above a range. You buy $600 with a stop 6% below, risking $36. A 15% follow-through pays $90. The short: after a 20% spike with no news behind it, PUMP stalls. You sell $600 with a stop 6% above, again risking $36. A 12% fade pays $72.

Neither trade needs PUMP to go anywhere in the long run, and neither needs a single dollar of your savings beyond the $29 fee. If short selling is new to you, read how long and short meme coin trades work first, then watch the live PUMP/USDT market for a few days before you size anything.

Rules check before you click buy or sell

  • Losses are measured on equity. An open PUMP position that is $150 underwater fails a $3,000 account for the day, even if you have not closed it.
  • A single trade that makes 60% or more of the stage’s target does not count toward it. In Step 1 on $3,000 that line is $180, which on a $600 position is a 30% move. PUMP has had days like that.
  • Profit from trades held under 5 minutes is not counted. It is not a violation, but closing on the first flick of a candle adds nothing.
  • You need at least 5 valid trading days in each step, and there is no time limit.

The full list is on the Fundex24 rules page. You can test all of it for free: register on Fundex24 and open the practice account, $10,000 of virtual money with leverage up to 1:10 for 3 days. The guide to rehearsing challenge rules on demo suggests drills for those days.

After that, the $3,000 challenge for $29 is the smallest paid step. Most people who try a challenge fail it, so pay only what you can afford to lose. Funded accounts are simulated and come with an 80% profit split; there is no promise of income, and you should check the rules that apply where you live.

Pump fun token: common questions

What is the PUMP token used for?

It is the token of the pump.fun platform. Pump.fun uses part of its revenue to buy PUMP back and burn it, which links the token to how busy the launchpad is.

What price was PUMP sold at?

$0.004 per token in the July 2025 public sale. It traded below that for much of the following year and was around $0.0063 at the time of writing.

Do PUMP unlocks always push the price down?

No. Unlock dates are public, so markets often move before them. The August 12, 2026 release passed with a move of about 1%.

Is PUMP the same as a “pump and dump”?

No. PUMP is a specific token. A pump and dump is a scheme in which a price is pushed up so insiders can sell to latecomers.

Can I trade PUMP on a challenge account?

Yes. PUMP/USDT can be traded long or short on Fundex24 challenge and funded accounts, under the same rules as every other market.
